Review: I am not gluten free, but my significant other is. We’ve been buying Shambala goodies and bread from the Edmonds and Ballard Farmers’ markets for ages and we finally made it into the brick and mortar for lunch today. Great food, friendly service, and a prime location.

Review: We visited Shambala Bakery for lunch after touring the nearby Skagit Valley tulip farms, and were thrilled they offer Gluten Free & non-GMO food. They also source food from local farms and makers. There was a huge street fair going on that weekend and 1st street was blocked off, so it was difficult to get to the restaurant due to traffic and limited access. We finally found a parking lot and ended up walking 3 blocks to the restaurant. When we got there, we were hungry! Two in our group got the Fish & Chips, and I tried the Wish & Chips (fried cauliflower instead of fish) and the green salad. I had an iced latte while we waited, and it was good. The service here was friendly and efficient. Everyone loved their food - the fish was line-caught fresh cod and the fries were hand cut and perfectly crunchy. The dipping sauces that came with it were delicious too. The green salad has pickled veggies in it that I didn’t know would be in it, so it wasn’t my favorite … but it was very fresh and healthy tasting. As for the GF baked goods, they looked interesting but I didn’t end up getting anything… The bread loaves were pretty dense and heavy feeling, so if you don’t normally eat gluten free food, it may not be a texture you’d expect or enjoy. Overall, it was a good choice for lunch and I’m glad we found this gluten free bakery in Mount Vernon. 👍 (Note: they do offer guests free Wi-Fi - the password is on a heart-shaped sign hanging by the bread shelf.)

Review: I really hate posting this review, especially since they have so many vegan options, but the baked goods I had from here were the worst I have ever eaten. The cupcakes were extremely gummy and bland, the frosting on top was hard as a rock, the cookies were also rock hard as was the cookie sandwich. As far as the other food, the lentil soup we got was extremely spicy and not listed as such, and the biscuits and gravy was pretty meh. I hope this place steps it's game up because I love the menu, but the taste is worse than the food I ate in the military chow halls.

Review: —Awesome to find a fantastic menu with excellent numerous vegan options in Mount Vernon. What a surprise. The number of menu items was the perfect amount for lots of choices but not too big to confuse. The only issue…standing in line waiting to order 17 minutes listening to a rambling person figure out the menu instead of knowing what she and her dining partner wanted to order ahead of time—like we did. It helped the wait when the order taker rolled her eyes at me because she was going through the painful order process too—LOL. Then the food arrived 32 minutes later. Well plated, flavorful, and enough food for a quality lunch. The decor is unique with local art for sale. Definitely coming back.
