Review: We went there with expectation as the visit is for our school project-looking for great chocolate around Kyoto University of the Arts. And we were not disappointed. They have been in the business for 18 years, providing pastries. If you are lactose intolerance, soy-milk products are available too. Staff were very nice, tried to communicate with us with simple Japanese, when they knew we are new overseas students.

Review: We discovered this place on a recent trip to Kyoto. Finding vegan options in Japan can be challenging, in particular when it comes to cakes and desserts. Mushiyashinai has many vegetarian, gluten-free and vegan options including different types of cakes, mochi and other Japanese confectionery. Menu items are clearly labelled and the staff are very knowledgable about allergens and dietary preferences. Everything we tried was extremely delicious and served in a calm and pleasant atmosphere. The people working here are passionate about their craft and very friendly as well as hospitable. We even got to try freshly made sakura mochi. We will miss this little gem and can highly recommend it to everyone, non-vegans included.

Review: Mushiyashinai is now all gluten-free! The lunchtime set (vegetarian curry or two mochi waffles) comes with a drink and a dessert. You use a QR code at the table to order which may pose a challenge if you don’t speak Japanese - just ask them for help. Both lunch sets are very delicious! The baked goods are also tasty if a bit pricy - I especially like the tarts with fruit on top. It’s handy to pick up a packet of veggie Gf ramen for later. I come here every time I visit Kyoto!

Review: I’ve been there several times and the contents of the store seem to have changed. I was impressed of the natural ingredients the store is using and how much effort they put on their products. The cake is gluten-free, as is the egg and dairy products. I’m not a vegetarian, but it was a satisfying taste.
